In class, we discussed what we will be doing for Project 2. Our goal is to ask a total of 5 perspective students during the Millersville tours a total of 5 questions each. Research showed that 85% of your entire research will be found during the first 5 interviews. It's important to not set guidelines or expectations for this project. We are not allow to help them in anyway while we are asking the questions. If they do have any questions we are suppose to ignore them and let them figure out the questions on their own. Our goal is to observe them while they are navigating through the questions by using the Admissions page to answer the 5 selected questions.
Here are the 5 questions I chose to ask out of the 10 original questions.
- Can you find information about Millersville regarding national/state wide rankings?
- Find information on how to apply as an international student?
- If you were an out-of-state student how would you find information regarding special out-of-state offerings?
- Let’s say you got admitted – find information about paying your confirmation deposit and the “next steps in enrolling?”
- Find information on the major that you are interested in applying for?
During class we went over to the Admissions department in Lyle Hall to talk to Peter on advice for how to approach the students and other questions that we could ask during the interviews. During class we performed a mock scenario of what we could expect while interviewing students. We must write down everything that we observe. The three most important things to cover is that this user testing is for research for the Experience Design class, that they will not miss anything for the tour and they will not be judged if they get it wrong.
Approach
- Remind them at the start of the interview that we are not judging them but finding research information off the Admissions webpage.
- Write down everything that they are doing and allow them to fail.
- Only allow 3-5 minutes per questions but don't say that they are being timed
- Don't say good job or yes you got it.
- 5 questions per person
- Set Admissions page as the default
- Thank them each time even if they fail or didn't get it.
- Go back to the Admissions page each time before the next question.
