Week 6 - Outside of Class

OUTSIDE OF CLASS

Admissions Visit: Morning

Before the families came I set up my computer at the far end away from the rest of the group, so there would be privacy for them to concentrate and wouldn't hear other user testing going on. I opened each of my tabs as Admission pages so the tabs would already be there for the next questions. I also had a sheet with the questions printed for each student/parent. Along with the questions, I printed a consent form knowing that I was going to record the session.

Student 1

For the first student I got a lot of screen movement as she was trying to read everything and look at everything on the webpage. She was tripped up by some of the questions and I prompted her to try her best. There were some times when she went right past the correct tab but I reframed myself from saying anything as the goal was to see where the page directed her.

Parent 1

For second person that I interviewed I got a parent to go through the questions. At first he was answering them verbally and kind of rephrased them as to why he would need to answer that question. I looked back at my prompt and asked if he would use the webpage to physically show could he would go through the process as we are testing the Admissions webpage. He tried once or twice but didn't want to go through the steps as he wasn't sure how to use a Mac computer.

Student 2

As for the second student they had some difficulties and her end results were second guessed as she wasn't sure if she had gotten to the correct page. On the last question she was tripped up because an error page came up and fortunately we could just quit the session because she had gotten through all of the questions.

Admissions Visit: Afternoon

During the afternoon session there wasn't as many families and if they came they arrived around 2:20 right before the tour. As for the families that came I allowed the students in the class who hadn't received anyone yet to go ahead of me, hoping that more families would show up.
